Top U.S. swimmer proposes to his Olympic hopeful girlfriend... on the medal podium
For Matt Grevers, a top finish in the 100-meter backstrokeSaturday night at the Missouri Grand Prix was a virtual necessity to pull off asurprise medal-stand marriage proposal to his girlfriend and USA nationalswimming teammate, Annie Chandler.
He waited until the silver and bronze medallists left thestand, and dropped to one knee before popping the question.

Chandler said she had little inkling that Grevers wouldpropose, even when meet organizers asked her to help present the medals duringher boyfriend's event.
'The only part that felt unnatural was when Matt asked me toget on the top (medalists') podium with him,' she said.
'When he fell to his knee and I saw the shiny black box, Iknew. That's when I went weak in the knees and kind of fell down myself,’ shetold the Associated Press.
For Grevers, the hardest part may have been obtaining theblessing of his girlfriend's father, former NFL player Thomas Chandler.
