AFC challenge cup 2012 : Draw to be held on tuesday

Theofficial draw for the AFC U-22 Asian Cup 2013, the new culminating platform forcontinental youth action, is scheduled to take place at AFC House on Tuesday.
The qualificationcampaign for the competition will start this year with the finals expected tobe held in June 2013 while the next edition of the biennial competition willserve as qualifiers for the 2016 Olympics.

A total of 41 Asian member associations haveshown interest to compete in the competition. The 41 countries who will befeaturing in the draw are Australia, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Cambodia, China PR,Chinese Taipei, DPR Korea, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Japan,Jordan, Korea Republic, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Lebanon, Macau, Malaysia,Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Philippines, Qatar, SaudiArabia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Syria, Tajikistan, Thailand, Timor Leste,Turkmenistan, UAE, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Yemen.

AFC has also finalised the draw mechanismaccording to which the seeding for the draw shall be based on the rankings ofthe AFC U-19 Championship 2010.

Those countries who are participating in thiscompetition but did not feature in the AFC U-19 Championship in 2010 (Cambodia,Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Maldives, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Timor Leste andTurkmenistan) are placed as the lowest ranked countries.

A total of 23 countries will feature in thequalifying rounds for the West Zone while the rest 18 will compete in the EastZone featuring seven groups of either six or five teams each.
