Roger Federer Heading To Eighth Wimbledon Final, Defeats Novak Djokovic
Roger Federer is heading to a record eighth Wimbledon after defeating defending champion Novak Djokovic in four sets on Friday.
A six-time champion at the tournament Federer advanced to the events big stage with a final score of 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 during closed roof play at Centre Court. If Federer wins at Wimbledon he will set two more records in his already record-breaking career.
Defeating Andy Murray or Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will put Federer in the No. 1 ranking spot, tying Pete Sampras’ record of 286 weeks as the No. 1 player in the world.
A victory would also allow Federer to tie another Pete Sampras record, the most Wimbledon titles won by a single player. The Wimbledon wins record is also held by William Renshaw, dating back to the 1880s.
The Wimbledon final will be determined later in the day when Murray and Tsonga square off in their semifinal match.
After his victory Federer said of his finals match:
Federer has only lost one time in the Wimbledon Finals, that loss came at the hands of Rafael Nadal during a 9-7 fifth set back in 2008.
